Mistaken for a student

Curiously, I was mistaken for a student from NUS last night. I must say that I am amused.

What are your favourite Kraftwerk tracks?

Kraftwerk's electronic melodies

What surprised me was that they played 'Showroom Dummies'! I was really really happy that they did. I was hoping for 'The Telephone Call', 'Airwaves', and 'Kometenmelodie 2' too.

Kraftwerk at the Esplanade

I had been to many many concerts and this was one of the best ever in my opinion. The original four line-up was not here. It was only Ralf Hütter and his touring musicians including a video technician.

The sound for this concert was great. A certain purity. The basslines were there without being overbearing or distorted.

Initially, when I saw some ang mohs and their SPG dolls heading in, I thought the place would be empty. Then, came the young people and more. Wow! Suddenly, the place was filled. Crowded! People were taking photos, videos and jumping up dancing. I thought everyone had a great time except for the lost and bored SPGs. Heheh.

Kraftwerk at the Esplanade

Kraftwerk, the legendary and iconic electronic band, finally made its way to Singapore this December evening in 2008. They played at the Esplanade tonight and brought the house down. Here, robots were brought out during the rendition of 'The Robots'.

As far as I was able to see, only one of the original members of Kraftwerk was there. The person on the far left corner is Ralf Hütter.

More harassment from the Standard Chartered Bank

Can you believe it? After I gave the promoters with Standard Chartered Bank a piece of my mind on Monday morning, they called again trying to sell me something? I was just about to step into the theatre at the Esplanade this evening. I complained to the caller and scolded her.

I think I have been harassed by Standard Chartered Bank for more than ten times this year?

Kraftwerk tonight!

WOO! I will say more about this after the concert!

Inexcusably ignorant

"The evidence of evolution pours in, not only from geology, paleontology, biogeography, and anatomy (Darwin's chief sources), but from molecular biology and every other branch of the life sciences. To put it bluntly but fairly, anyone today who doubts that the variety of life on this planet was produced by a process of evolution is simply ignorant -- inexcusably ignorant, in a world where three out of four people have learned to read and write. Doubts about the power of Darwin's idea of natural selection to explain this evolutionary process are still intellectually respectable, however, although the burden of proof for such skepticism has become immense."

-- Daniel Dennett, Darwin's Dangerous Idea (1995)

Civil Service College

I was at the Civil Service College at North Bouna Vista Road for the first time since 1999. Has it been that long since I was last there for an ISO9000 course?

Today, I was there for a briefing for a Tradenet implementation.

Toilet users at the Civil Service College

People just insist on squatting on a toilet bowl. The toilet at the Civil Service College was clean but the toilet seat was stained with urine and was broken. I wonder why toilet users are that inconsiderate. If one insists on squatting, then use the squatting cubicle, don't damage the toilet seat by squatting on it. Talk about uncivilised savages.

Photos of Spain

I will continue putting up photos of Tarragona, Barcelona, Montserrat and more when I can find the time and inclination.

Another annoying sales call from Standard Chartered Bank

I received a call from the representatives of Standard Chartered Bank this morning. It was yet another sales call. Credit line or credit card. Doh.

I must have received over ten calls from the representatives of Standard Chartered Bank this year. I had told them to remove my name from their list. And they did not propagate my request to the many promotional companies representing them. So, the harassing calls persist.

Company after company representing Standard Chartered Bank called.

The call this morning was one too many. I requested to speak to manager and I asked him to get my name removed and also asked him to convey my request back to Standard Chartered Bank. Will this work?

I suspect not. It hadn't work previously.

What small arms were the Islamists wielding in Mumbai?

Today, I saw an Associated Press (AP) photo in the Straits Times of the weapons captured by the Indian authorities. They were all Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns. Yet, the close-circuit TV footage had showed a young man with an AK-47 or AKM and the authorities had reported of men wielding the AK series of assault rifles.

Now, what were these Islamists really wielding? The AK-series of weapons? A combination of types? Pakistan is a known licensed producer (and possible exporter) of Heckler & Koch weapons and while the weapons are not easily available to terrorists, terrorists have been known to wield them. If Heckler & Koch weapons were used, I would expect some implications as to their origins.

There is another possibility that the AP photo was mislabelled, with those weapons belonging to that of the paramilitary.
