My regular haunt

One Saturday afternoon. In the course of my weekly search for books, I'll drop by Borders and Sunny's bookstore.

  2. It is.

Just a five minutes walk from Takashimaya. They are both on Orchard Road.

Borders is at Wheelock Place while Sunny's bookstore is at Far East Plaza.

(Wheelock Place is owned by a Hong Kong conglomerate, Wheelock Properties, also part of the Lane Crawford department stores group.)

  3. I spend too much on books anyway and I have forced myself to stop buying books. Well, at least for a few weeks!

  5. There is. Did you know that there is a library on the fourth floor of Ngee Ann City? (which houses Takashimaya)

It is just that I own several thousand books and I have read about half of them and the books I want are generally not in the local libraries. Books like 'The Seduction of Place: The City in the Twentieth Century', 'The Teutonic Knights', 'The Oxford History of the Byzantium', etc. Heheh.

I order from aboard often. I bought 'War and Society in Renaissance Europe 1450-1620' and 'Weapons and Warfare in Renaissance Europe' last week from Amazon.

  7. Heheh. Well, that is not uncommon in Singapore either. A colleague from China once made the observation that Singaporeans don't like to read. I agree with him. Even if Singaporeans were to read, I think they are very practical and pragmatic people, they usually go for self-help books, inspirational books, MBA/finance books and so forth.

1-2 chapters!? That's it? No more?
    Wow!
