New look

No more black, gloomy screens. It is time for a change. The last change was in July 2010.

First, there was the 33.5 degree heat yesterday. Now, it rains. Fortunately, I had ran 5.19 km yesterday and the day before.

I will contemplate on running longer distances.

A quiet day

A hot and quiet day. Nothing amiss. I shall go running this evening.

Saab 900

This morning I saw a bright, red Saab 900 turbo convertible (16 valve) along Thomson Road. This model looks like something from two decades or more ago, a curious contraption from the eighties.

Soon, the distinctive Saab automobiles will fade from the roads and become memory.

If Hollywood needs someone to play Norman Bates in another re-make of Psycho, we know who should play him! It is this guy we all know... Hahaha. Can you guess who this guy is? Hahah. Okay, I don't want to reveal his name here.

Yes, it is an artist or illustrator, a professional one.

The night walk

It was a guided walk by the serenity of the beaches at Pasir Ris, occasionally punctuated by the chatters of the young in their tents, and the dim glows of the embers in the barbeque pits. Beneath the overcast night skies, the tired moored ship, raised on a dry dock above water, illuminated by blindingly bright headlamps poised like vultures above appeared almost surreal. She conducted me through a time-lapsed personal mindscape, touching me with narratives of a window into childhood, pastimes, and adventures into the unknown.

Freezepop

I heard of this band a decade or so ago but I didn't go listen as I was already trying out a lot of electronic music. Finally, I did four albums and numerous EPs and singles later and I must say that I like it. American synthpop! The music harks back to an earlier age. Great fun.

I heard the second single, 'Soothe my Soul', from Depeche Mode's new album 'Delta Machine' on youtube.

I also heard 'Should be Higher'. These were performances on the David Letterman show. Finally, I heard 'Angel' on youtube, a leaked song from the album which is due to be released next Monday.

I hated the first single 'Heaven'. Depeche Mode's transition to rock and blues is pretty much complete. It is no longer the cagey electronic band which I like in 1990.

This pretty much confirms that I will not be buying the new album come Monday. This ends a long association. I haven't found Depeche Mode to be compelling since 1990 anyway.

Relegation for Queens Park Rangers

It would be funny if Queens Park Rangers get relegated. And it looks as if the club will get relegated. They have gambled, spending a lot of money now.

It would be a disaster for the club if this happens. Perhaps, the deep pockets of the Air Asia guy can buy them out of this by promising cash incentives. Who knows.

Perhaps, he can finance a new team next season.

Cheap novelty

If you were to show me, say, a detailed 20-metre tall fingernail-sculptured cast of say, Captain Picard, I wouldn't despair nor think it clever. Instead, I would wonder if the person had a life.

Likewise, a person painting with his toes in front of an adoring audience.* I would think performing monkey. I have seen too many performing monkeys in the last two years.

*No, this is not about people with disabilities but rather people who like to 'perform' like a peacock in front of others.

Anime and manga are mainstream. It has arrived quite some years ago. The games and stories have made it to Hollywood, sometimes in an Americanised form but the core is still truly Japanese. Witness Transformers, a billion dollar grossing movie.

It's not some secret nerd show anymore.

I found this most fascinating of magazines when I was at Holland Village last week.

Recovery

I was sad over the loss of two pieces. I sought to re-create them. I had re-created one on Friday. And on Sunday, I managed to re-create another. This is an improved recreation.

I do not want to mope over losses if I can do something about it. Now, I can move on to new pieces. This is the twentieth in a science fiction set. The others will be collected and available on another blog soon.

Of Freezepop and music

I have been buying and listening to Freezepop CDs. I find that it works well when played loud.

I usually play CDs very softly.

I'm taking a ride with my Sweetie. Whee! Thank you for the wonderful time Sweetie!

Peanut butter-flavoured ice-cream

I have tried the peanut butter flavour from Island Creamery, Udders and the peanut butter cup flavour from Ben & Jerry's. Verdict?

1. Ben & Jerry's - peanut butter cup. This is my favourite.
2. Udders - peanut butter. I don't like it. More nut than than ice-cream.
3. Island Creamery - peanut butter. Unmemorable. Again, it is as if you are eating peanuts, the nuts  overwhelm the ice-cream completely.

Yes, I know, big, faceless American firm versus small local outfits. However, the big corporation has the better ice-cream this time. I can't stop wanting more Ben & Jerry's whereas as soon as I had the cups from Udders and Island Creamery, I know that I will never order that flavour again.

The lost city

I had lost two pieces which I had put my heart into recently. I was sad. However, that did not stop me. I re-created and re-imagined the piece yesterday afternoon at Max Brenner at Vivocity. A few hours later, I have a completed piece, an improved piece. Whee! The lost piece was 80% complete then.

Now, I am going to re-create the other lost piece which was also about 80% complete.

I managed to apply for a renewal of my passport. It had taken a while since I did need to take a new passport photo with a white background.
