Forum Galleria

The Forum Galleria is a mall housing mainly shops oriented for the toddler and kids. There is a Toys-R-Us joint here. It's probably the first in the country. This complex is now on the site of the old Singapura Hotel.

I recall the old Singapura Hotel. It's a pity I don't have any photos of it. I remember my parents bringing my sisters and I to a SzeChuan restaurant housed within the hotel three decades ago. What memories. Posted by Picasa

Nope. The first Toys R Us opened in Marine Parade, sharing the same building with Yamaha music school. During that time, Chuck E Cheese and Ken Air Funworld were the main draws at Parkway Parade across the street.

Forum Galleria was the second branch catering mostly to the expats and the district 10 community.

The other bigger toys retail chain during that era was "Kids' Island" or something like that - they had a branch at Goldhill Square. Talking about its contemporary incarnation - United Square, it's now being placed as a place for kids. One of the advertising slogan - "Knowledge and Education are the best WEAPONS to change the world". I wonder why the copywriters chose to use "weapon" rather than "tool". I suppose revolution always have violent connotations.

Wow! You're incredible! Thanks for the clarification.

You are right, Forum Galleria caters mostly to expats. I barely see locals in there.

Kids Island? I'm not aware of that one. Is it a local operation?

You are right regarding United Square. I see schools, toy shops and other children-oriented commerical operations there.

I guess 'weapons' has a ring of power to it... though it just seems wrong.

Ah United SQ. It was GoldHill Sq wasn't it? There was a roller skating rink back in the mid 80s

Yes 4574r07h, United Square was indeed Goldhill Square and it housed the Galleries Lafayette then! A pity that they moved out.

A skating place? I am surprised!

Yeah...

Somehow, when it was Goldhill Square, I visited it once.

Six years ago, before this refurbishment, I went there once more or twice.
