Batman Begins

I finally watched this Christopher Nolan vehicle last night and I thought this story-driven comic adaptation was far superior to the lacklustre Tim Burton movies of the eighties. Nolan tempered a 'realistic' touch with the surreal gothic cityscape of Gotham City without the mis-castings, awkwardness and silliness of the original Burton fiascos which were commercial successes. Despite the initial mumbo jumbo in the form of soundbites uttered by the mentor figure initially, this could hardly be out of place when juxtapositioned in a film with a justice-seeking character dressed in a tight bat suit. The ending was somewhat anti-climatic but my sister had shrewdly observed that this had set it up for a sequel! 7/10.

It was an excellent film. It also showed the greater depth of character of the superheroes in the DC line over Marvel. I'd give it at least an 8/10. Michael Caine as Alfred the butler was excellent, I loved Bale's portrayal of Bruce Wayne, especially when he tells his dinner guests to leave. I am eagerly awaiting the Dark Knight.

I think Cynthia would love to watch, regardless :)

Wilfrid, have you not watched 'Batman Begins'? It's a 2005 film. Released on big screens in June 2005 with the DVD appearing a few months in October 2005. Surprising.

Well, the ending did set the franchise up for the next one 'The Dark Knight' which should be released later this year.

Tim, I am surprised. I have always had the impression that there was greater depth of character of the superheroes in the Marvel stable over the DC ones. However, I am not a big comic book reader, so, I probably don't know them as well as you do. For comics, from the little that I have read, my orientation is more towards European material, followed by Japanese.

Michael Caine is the professional. Any role, no matter how good or bad, he is professional. Highly admirable.

Oh! I was so confused. I thought you have watched the sneak review of the sequel. And I didn't even know the title so I thought you were refering to the new film.

Ha ha ha ... my bad.

Cynthia is a big fan of Batman Begins. I love that too. I remmeber the ending there was a card with a Joker.
