Centurion

A charging Roman centurion and a legionary. A sketch based on a rather small blurred photo. The motion blur filter was likely used in that photo. I had to reconstruct some details.

No, I have not watched 'Rome'. I don't know if it is showing over here in Singapore. I have heard about from people writing about it on http://talk.consimworld.com

Thanks! It is actually inspired by the cover of John Peddie's book, 'The Roman War Machine'.

'Mindphaser', for an industrial track, is quite infectious!

Have you heard 'Vanished'? Stupendous single. I feel that the remixes on the single are outstanding and they outshine the original on the album.

There is certainly a sense of energy in this drawing. I have a strange affinity to the Roman soldiers after having a vivid dream years ago, which I still remember with great clarity. In that dream, I was a Roman soldier patrolling some castle walls. Some infiltrators (most likely barbarians or Picts) got behind me and stabbed me. I remember looking down in front and a shortsword was protruding through my splint mail armour.

Silver.

In your dream, what period were these Roman soldiers from? Republican? Early Imperial? Late Imperial? Byzantine? The fact is that Roman soldiers from different periods are different in appearance. I suspect that your dream is likely to be influenced by those that you have seen in church plays, in other words, they would be early Imperial.

The Romans would likely be wielding the gladius (a shortsword) while Picts and barbarians would likely be wielding large longswords or even two-handed swords.

Hello again,

As far as barbarian weapons go, it all depends about which barbarian one is talking as they had a plethora of different weapon types.

When I hear Picts and barbarians and walls, I would instantly place it at Hadrian's Wall or the other one further south. Thus, I made those assumptions.

Yes, you are right, Rome's enemies were armed with a wide assortment of weapons. From the Iberian-Celt tribes with their shorter weapons to the Teutones with their great swords to others. Thanks.
