USS Intrepid

According to a BBC report, the USS Intrepid is being towed to a different location for a re-fit. I visited the USS Intrepid in 1992 and had a great time admiring the different aircraft displays in the old aircraft carrier.

I also saw a captured Iraqi tank and mechanised infantry combat vehicle from Operation Desert Storm.

I will put up photos one of these days.

If you haven't been there, it's well-worth a visit in my opinion.

It passed by our building this morning (where I work downtown NYC). An announcement was made. But sadly, I couldn't get a photograph of it.

I've also been on the Intrepid some years back. I agree that it's well-worth the visit. I have picture of me somewhere amonng the aircrafts.

I visited the ship too when I was in NYC pre-911. One of the exhibits was the fighter flown by George H.W Bush in WW2 iirc...

Now you have to wait till 2008 to see it again.

Amazing, V. You could see an aircraft carrier being towed from your building!

Zero, yes, I visited the USS Intrepid just after the first bombing of the World Trade Centre. I recall a large area of the World Trade Centre being sealed. There was supposed to be a huge gaping hole there.

Takchek, it's a pity. However, one can visit Duxford! A lot more aircraft! And tanks too!
