FV101 Alvis Scorpion Reconaissance Vehicle
When the British government decided to build a wheeled and a tracked reconaissance vehicle, the Scorpion was the tracked component, entering service in the early seventies. The Scorpion was a successful vehicle and was also used by Belgium, Brunei, Eire, Honduras, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines and a host of many other nations. The Scorpion has welded aluminum hull and turret and mounted a light 76mm gun, which was a lightened version of the one on the Saladin wheeled reconaissance vehicle. Malaysia utilises the Scorpion 90 which is a version armed with a 90mm Cockerill gun instead.
The Scorpion saw action in the Falklands where its light ground pressure had enabled it traverse terrain impassable by other types.
