Duran Duran The Singles 1986-95

The second set of Duran Duran singles consists of 14 CDs.

I was looking at my US CD single of 'Come undone'. I noted that it has a track that the CD single in this collection has not got. Strange. Indeed. Their sense of fashion, the deliberate androgynous look, the experimentation with pop structures within the 4-minute pop single, and their concerts! They are the New Romantic era..

Duran were always judged by their looks and so many people overlooked their talent for writing excellent pop songs. I love their later stuff (listed here) which so many people missed out on after "Notorious". The first singles box is excellent too and brings me back to when I was young and my parents let me pick a 45 to take home if I was good at grandma's house (or something like that). Some great art design too. The first Duran album will always be my favorite--their darkest, synthiest, almost goth debut release. Nick Rhodes and his Roland keyboards and sequencing was a true electronic music master and most likely planted the seeds for my interrest in such music today. In fact, the more recent and sadly overlooked "Medazzaland" is in itself an electronic masterpiece that was probably too much of a contrast from their comeback,self-titled "wedding album".It was probably too dark and abstract for the masses unfortunately.

I think "Come Undone" is probably my favorite of the newer Duran singles. I really loved that track and played it to death.

I was glad that they re-released their first album on CD which included the track "To The Shore" and they left out "Is There Something I Should Know" which clearly did NOT belong on that album (the American release). Those first three ablums have to be one of the greatest of releases in Brit-Pop history.
