Burger King Far East Plaza

In 1984-85, this was the hang-out place for teens. It was a period when Wendy's, then the third largest hamburger chain in the world, occupied this spot. I could remember that they served 'Frosties', a thick milkshare of sorts, and three-decker hamburgers!

Today, Wendy's is no more, being replaced by a Burger King joint. It didn't last long in Singapore, like Hardees, Jack in the Box, and a few others. Strangely enough, A&W, which was the first fast food joint to make it to our shores in the early seventies, ceased operations recently.

Today, Far East Plaza appears to have re-captured its former allure for teens. I think it is the leading shopping place for the younger set again.

Interestingly, Wendy's still exist in Tokyo, while BK do not.

That is certainly quite something! Did you know that eBay pulled out of Japan after failing to make inroads whereas Yahoo Auctions is very succesful there?

Yahoo Auctions is practically a failure elsewhere!

Most odd!

Wendys is better than "the King" IMHO. The founder of Wendys, Dave Thomas(RIP) was a good guy. He gave alot to charity.

Be sure to enjoy in moderation, or you too will be fat like the average American. :)

The Wendy's burgers had square patties then. When I was in the USA again some years ago, I saw that the burgers at Wendy's is no longer square in shape!

Yes, you're right about moderation. Morgan Spurlock's 'Super Size Me' provided a great wake up call. I have also read 'Fast Food Nation' previously.

Good to hear that he gave a lot to charity. Showed that he has a heart.

The average Singapore kid is beginning to look like hobbits now. Rotund little things. Ack.

And unfortunately... quite a few gals would try to look like Gollum when they start finding guys attractive.

I used to love Wendy's Shrimp Burger so much as a school kid, I would save up and eat it 3 times a week! LOL

I think before BK occupied it, there was a McDonald's in the same spot, or I might be wrong as usual... ;P

Oh, you're back! You were inactive on your blog for the longest time.

Shrimp burgers! That's amazing. I can't remember all that much anymore. It's a pity that Wendy's is gone. Three times a week!

Have you tried Carl's Junior yet? I used to have their Western Bacon Cheeseburgers twenty years ago when I was in school in California.

You're probably right about the McDonald's. They shift all over.
