Near Dark

Last night, I was drawing and listening to this 1987 soundtrack of an obscure proto-Vampire killfest flick that is so common these days. 'Near Dark' pre-dates 'Underworld', 'Underworld: Evolution', 'Buffy', 'From Dusk till Dawn' and others of that irk.

This Tangerine Dream soundtrack is not particularly distinguished. It's alright. Not bad , just nothing really special.

Oh, the guy on the cover looks like one of my friends.

That's Bill Paxton, current star of "Big Love" on HBO. I always liked this movie.

Near Dark is a cool movie,3 of the cast of Aliens in one movie,Bill Paxton,Lance Henriksen and Jenette Goldstein.I think the score works great with the movie, maybe not as good by itself !

Tim, Andrew, you have the context, having watched the film. I guess I don't. So, I am missing a visual dimension to this. And I have heard the OST only once despite owning it for years! My words and pronouncement on it are probably too hasty.

Tim, my mother's birthday is coming two. Two more weeks!

Fantastic movie, Near Dark.

I love the bits they throw in about how Vampires adapt to modern living, especially sunlight. Very imaginative writing. As I recall, this was directed by Gail Ann Heard(?) who was James Cameron's main squeeze at the time. They had worked on the Terminator movies, Aliens and then they broke up around the time of the Abyss.

Actually although James Cameron was married to Gale Ann Hurd it wasn't her that Directed Near Dark,it was Kathryn Bigelow who Directed Blue Steel,Point Break and Strange Days, she was Cameron's 3rd wife,I think he's onto his 5th now Linda Hamilton from The Terminator and T2 being his 4th !

This was the Halloween movie for me and my friends last year. It's a tad over-rated but also better than about 90 percent of horror movies, and I thought the soundtrack complemented it nicely.

Mister Nizz, do you think it would be worthwhile to search for this title and watch it?

Andrew. Bigelow. I remember her for Strange Days and Point Break. I wonder if she is still active. I shall check on imdb.

Jebb, I am surprised. I have never seen it around.
