From an article on Defence Update:

"Following the C-802 missile attack on the Israeli corvette, the Israeli Navy and Air Force attacked and destroyed all coastal radar sites along the Lebanese coastline, to prevent repeated attacks."

Lebanese coastal radars? That is interesting.

Lebanese coastal radars consist of men on little boats with high powered binocs.

Hahahah.

I have no doubt that they do have coastal radars. The main question is why.

The launch of missiles at 16km offshore can really only be directed by radars of some kind.

The Hizbollah is known to have stocked up to over 10,000 rockets of various types including BM-21, etc in Southern Lebanon. Courtesy of Iran and Syria. Well done...

In Jane's Fighting Ships, under the Iranian Navy section, you can find poor resolution pictures of men on normal jet skis armed with RPG. I wouldn't be surprise if the coastal surveillance does include high-powered optics ie, electro-optics directors.

Poor intelligence....IDF didn't know of such capabilities ie. the missiles AND the coastal radars.

Gun flashes from 76mm OTO Melara guns might have been visible. Thus, the binoculars approach might have worked.

Yes, you are probably right regarding poor intelligence. However, I do question the viability of these tiny anti-aircraft platforms given the history and performance of small vessels.
