June in Korea
June told me of her experiences in Korea over the weekend. She was there recently. It was fascinating but I shall not relate them.
I wonder about the place, I have vague memories of a cold, grey and blue-hued place when I visited Seoul in the early eighties. Gloomy!
Anyway, with her permission, these photos are here on the blog:
Pretty!
June stated that it cost USD3.00 to gain entry.
She also noted a lot of re-construction work done on these 'ancient' buildings. I see modern brickwork on a lot of these photos. I wonder.

They're not ancient at all. They've been rebuilt since WWII and the Korean War, when they were mostly levelled.
Gyeongbokgung (the palace in The Jewel in the Palace) has been mostly rebuilt. Though I do remember seeing some distinctly un-rebuilt buildings, which were unsafe to enter due to holes in the ceiling etc.
Some day I'll post my Seoul pics.
Oh. That explains the gleaming feel of a lot of the structures in the images. In addition, the lack of wear and the precision of the fitting.
Not to mention the brick work.
These Korean structures were levelled in World War II? And then totally rebuilt? Amazing.
I guess the Germans are doing the same thing with a cathedral and other structures.
Did you know that there is supposedly one walled city left in China? Yeah. It's a pity.
Do post your Seoul images. I have yet to post a large set of my visit to the famous Yu Rock Gardens in Shanghai.
