Guilty Angel, The Angel & The Vampire

Well, the last few Battle Angel Alita Last Order books have been somewhat lacklustre. The trend continues. Alita is discovering her past and battling in an arena at the same time. This time, the battles in the arena lacks a sense of urgency and are not compelling, they just go by. Why have battles if they are meaningless at best? Fill the pages?

The tedious subplots showing the lives and origins of the combatants are not interesting and detracts from the thrust of the story. The highlights of the two volumes are the exploration of Alita's past.

On the artwork, Yukito Kishiro has come a long way. The artwork is fabulous and the linework feels more finished than the early issues. There is some terrific comic book work in movement from panel to panel.

'Guilty Angel', 'Angel of Protest'. Someone should stop him from giving these corny titles.

I have not seen the original, as in Japanese, but the Engligh titles might be the 'fault' of the translator.

Yes, even the name Alita was, well, different. The Japanese name for her bears no resemblance at all! None whatsoever.
